Day 1.

Hello there reader. If you didn't know, I am Kennedi B. Right now, at this moment (2:38 pm) I am writing to you about my day. I'm a little bit sleepy because we had to wake up at 6:05 am. I don't even wake up for school that early! (Well I'm supposed to but life happens). I don't want to bore you so I'll keep this simple. I woke everyone up at 6:05 and got dressed. Once everyone was up and talking, Shae (our counselor) spotted a frog on Jeightlon's bed! No one screamed but Jillian came to the rescue and picked up the frog. But soon after the frog jumped out from her hand and went into her suitcase! she finally found it and took it outside. (I got it on my snapchat story). We all got ready eventually and went to breakfast. The breakfast was buffet style and I got a bagel, a strawberry yogurt, froot loops (generic kind), and a banana. After that 13 of the girls (including me) hopped into the van driven by Joy. The rest of the girls hopped into the white minivan driven by Shae. We got driven to the Multicultural Center for our first class.

When we got to the MCC, we went into a wide spaced classroom and got to know our instructors better. After that, we learned about
the first highly recognized female mathematicians- Hypatia.
Hypatia was born in the late 300s A.D. She taught Math and Astronomy and was murdered because she was different than other women her age.

After we learned about Hypatia, we learned about sets, binomals, trinomals, expressions, degrees, monomials, and did some logic puzzles. After all of that we had lunch and played the game set. You can play the online version here: set

We then walked to Morgan Hall to talk about polynomography with Mr. Feveer. While he was explaining polynomography, he gave us iPads (we had to share with a partner) so that we could go on to the app Poly Z Vision. Then, I made a polynomial.
When we came out of the computer lab, we ate dinner, went swimming, and came back to the cabin to watch Now You See me. It was really good. I finally went to sleep.

  1. Hello Kennedi! What an exciting first day indeed, lol! The frog story is super funny, thank goodness for Jillian coming to the rescue. Well I am very intrigued about Hypatia's story. I have never heard of her but your description has motivated me to do a little research on my own. Its unfortunate that there are people who are sometimes treated unfairly because they are different than others. I am glad that Hypatia didn't change for other people, her life continues to inspire others like you and me more than 1700 years later!

Keep learning and having fun Kennedi!
